In this case study, Waterford City and County Council unpacks their Reviving Urban Living by reducing Property vacancy and dereliction initiative, which won the Urban Revival category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Reviving Urban Living by reducing Property vacancy and dereliction\u2019 is an initiative that substantially promotes urbanism through improving and enhancing the lived experience in urban environments, by activating and encouraging reuse of vacant and derelict properties. An outstanding example of the efforts to enhance urban living in Waterford includes St. Joesph\u2019s House.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/agefriendlyhomes.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DM204050-600x400.jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agefriendlyhomes.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DM204050-600x400.jpg.webp 600w, https:\/\/agefriendlyhomes.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DM204050-600x400.jpg-567x378.webp 567w, https:\/\/agefriendlyhomes.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DM204050-600x400.jpg-288x192.webp 288w, https:\/\/agefriendlyhomes.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DM204050-600x400.jpg-288x192@2x.webp 576w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>St Joseph\u2019s House aims to provide age friendly housing appropriate to the needs of older adults in Waterford, in line with the Waterford Age Friendly Strategy, as well as promoting and supporting independent living and ageing in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development of 71 units offers age friendly and adaptable apartment layouts within the existing structure of the building.
