Two one-bed apartments are available through this scheme which is entirely voluntary. They are set in a well-established and well-serviced area with plenty of amenities nearby. The rightsizing homes are located in a mixed tenure development, that includes both social and private housing units.  The new homes are a ground floor and a first-floor unit with floor areas of 49.2m\u00b2 and 49.5m\u00b2 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The register launch is focused on private rightsizers over the age of 55, who own their own homes, and who find their dwelling too large for their needs. Under the scheme, a successful applicant must sell their home on the private market in return for a lifelong tenancy. The successful applicants will pay a 25% financial contribution from the sale to Limerick City and County Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new homes will be available in February 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The closing date for receipt of applications from eligible candidates over the age of 55 is 5pm Wednesday 11th February 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Candidates who submit a full application with supporting documentation will be assessed to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements. Limerick City and County Council will hold a panel of approved candidates in excess of the number of available properties in case a selected candidate\u2019s circumstances change, and they are unable to accept the offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
