Housing Adaptation Grants

There are three grant types available to older people and people with a disability to support adapting their homes.

  1. The Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability provides up to €30,000 to assist people with a disability to have necessary adaptations, repairs or improvement works carried out to make their accommodation more suitable for their needs. More information can be found on the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage’s website.
  2. The Mobility Aids Grant provides up to €6,000 to cover the cost of a basic suite of works to address mobility problems. Qualifying works include the provision of stair lifts, level access showers, access ramps, grab rails and some minor adaptation works. This grant is means tested.   3. The Housing Aid for Older People Grant provides up to €8,000 to assist older people living in poor housing conditions to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out. Eligible works include structural repairs or improvements, re-wiring, repairs to or replacement of windows and doors, provision of water supply and sanitary facilities, provision of heating etc. This grant is means tested. Fully completed application forms should be returned to your Local Authority Office.
