Housing Agency research on housing our ageing population referenced in the Irish Times

A survey conducted by the Housing Agency in 2016 has been referenced in the Irish Times today in relation to housing options for older people.

An article in the Irish Times today (2nd March 2021) explores the housing options available to our ageing population. As the article points out, by 2050 a quarter of the population will be over the age of 65.

Referencing the Thinking Ahead research conducted by the Housing Agency, the article confirms that majority (two-thirds) of older people who own their own homes would like to remain their as they age. While only 15% of the participants wanted to move to a different property in the same community.

The article outlines a variety of housing options available to people as they age, including private sheltered housing, age friendly schemes run by approved housing bodies and rightsizing.
